 SCHOLARSHIP GUIDELINES

The Jose Maria College of Medicine (JMCM) offers opportunities for medical education to deserving students through the Gift of Education (GoE) Scholarship Program of JMCM.

I. CRITERIA

GENERAL CRITERIA

Full Scholarship                                                              (100% Free Tuition Fee and Miscellaneous Fees)

1.   With Latin Honors OR with College General Weighted Average (GWA) equal to or above 90

2.   NMAT Percentile Rank/Score: Equal to or above 90

3.   With Letter of Acceptance from JMCM Admissions Committee

4.   No prior history of attending any medical school

 

 

Partial Scholarship                                                          (50% Discount on Tuition Fee and Miscellaneous Fees)

1.   With College General Weighted Average (GWA) equal to or above 87 OR a Board Topnotcher (Top 1 to 10) in a Professional Licensure Exam

2.   NMAT Percentile Rank/Score: Equal to or above 80

3.   With Letter of Acceptance from JMCM Admissions Committee

4.   No prior history of attending any medical school

 

II. PROCEDURE

1. The scholarship applicant must undergo the admission process and must secure approval and Letter of Acceptance from JMCM Admissions Committee (refer to JMCM Application Guide).

2.Submit the following requirements in PDF form via email to [email protected] for evaluation of the Scholarship Committee:

                          2.1. NMAT Result

                          2.2. Certificate of General Weighted Average

                          2.3. Transcript of Record

                          2.4. Certificate of Good Moral Character from previous school

                          2.5. Two (2) recommendation letters from previous Dean and/or professors

                           2.6. Letter of Acceptance from JMCM Admissions Committee

                          2.7. Latest Family Income Tax Return from the BIR

                          2.8. A 500- to 1000-word essay on why the applicant deserves the scholarship

                          2.9. Barangay Certificate/Indigenous People Certificate

                 Note:

                   A. Requirements 2.1 to 2.5 are part of the admission requirements.

                   B. Only complete requirements will be processed by the Scholarship Committee.

  1. The scholarship applicant will be notified via SMS and e-mail on the schedule of the panel interview by the Scholarship Committee.
  1. Screening and evaluation will be made by the Scholarship Committee based on the given criteria, result of the panel interview and financial capacity. Applicants with the highest ranking based on the evaluation will be granted the scholarship.

 

  1. Deadline of Scholarship Application is on June 30, 2021. Early application is encouraged since scholarship slots are limited. List of scholarship grantees will be released around four (4) weeks prior to the start of classes.

III. RETENTION POLICIES.

The Scholarship Grantee must meet the following academic requirements to maintain the scholarship:

  1. FULL SCHOLARSHIP
  • The scholar must maintain a GWA of equal to or above 85%, with no grade less than 80% in any subject.
  • If the scholar does not meet the above maintaining grade, but meets the criteria for partial scholarship, he or she may be given a probationary partial scholarship for the next school year. He/she will be given a one-time chance of regaining his/her full scholarship in the succeeding school year, if the scholar is again able to meet the abovementioned criteria during the probationary year.
  1. PARTIAL SCHOLARSHIP
  • The scholar must maintain a GWA of equal to or above 80%, with no grade less than 78% in any subject.
  • If the scholar does not meet the above maintaining grade, the scholarship will be discontinued in the succeeding school year. He/she may be given a one-time chance of re-applying for a scholarship, if he/she is again able to meet the abovementioned criteria during the interval school year.
  1. Scholars are evaluated for compliance to grade requirements at the end of every semester, and at the end of every school year. The Scholarship committee may maintain, downgrade, or discontinue the scholarship grant, based on academic performance and continuing financial need.

 

IV. RESPONSIBILITIES OF A GoE SCHOLAR.

The scholarship grantee must:

  1. Meet the grade requirements as mentioned above.
  2. Participate in school and institutional activities or events.
  3. Render a return of service within a year after passing the Physician Licensure Examination, either:
    • As part of the JMCM Faculty, OR
    • As a physician in a rural or community setting, to be approved by the Scholarship Committee.
  4. Length of return of service depends on the category and number of years the scholarship grant was enjoyed.
    • For FULL scholars: one-year return of service for every year of scholarship enjoyed
    • For PARTIAL scholars: half-year return of service for every year of scholarship enjoyed
  5. Pay back in lump sum the total financial assistance received as a scholar plus interest, if:
    • The scholar fails to render the return of service within a year after passing the Physician Licensure Examination, without prior arrangement or agreement with the Scholarship Committee;
    • The scholarship is terminated due to the scholar’s willful abandonment of the scholarship; OR
    • The scholar displays gross misconduct.
